Heimerdinger is one of the most important characters in Arcane; he is a yordle and a genius scientist. Also known as the “Father of Piltover,” he is a renowned scientist and one of the most famous inventors in the city.

Heimerdinger’s Journey in Arcane Season 2
By Season 2, Heimerdinger has adopted Ekko as his protégé, forming a mentor-student relationship with the young leader of the Firelights, a Zaunite rebel group. Despite Heimerdinger leaving the council, he returns to Piltover when Ekko notices a peculiar illness on a tree in the Firelights’ nest. This discovery puts Heimerdinger, Ekko, and a weary Jayce on a mission to investigate the disturbing phenomenon, confronting the consequences of Viktor’s “evolution” experiments.
Recall Heimerdinger in Arcane Season 1
In Season 1, Heimerdinger is a wise, over-three-hundred-year-old scientist, professor, and a member of the Piltover City Council. He is considered one of the founders of Piltover and an important member of Piltover University. Previously, he worked with the notorious scientist Singed, giving him a unique background in both science and the dangers of a reckless pursuit of one’s goals.
In the early episodes of Season 1, Heimerdinger advises his students, including Jayce, to avoid combining science with magic and warns them about the dangers of Hextech. However, Jayce ignores these warnings and successfully develops Hexgem technology, which proves revolutionary. Although Heimerdinger is impressed, he cannot endorse Hextech’s usage, especially with the progression of the unstable Hexcore by Viktor.
“We need a leadership focused on the future, not the past” Jayce, as he convinces the Piltover Council to force Heimerdinger into retirement.
A New Path: Zaun’s Alliance with Heimerdinger
After losing his council position, Heimerdinger moves to Zaun to aid its residents amid the growing conflict. There, he meets Ekko, who is wounded but resilient. They become close due to their shared love of invention, and Heimerdinger finds renewed purpose by assisting Ekko and the Firelights with their inventions and goals for a better future.
