OG Dota 2 team, which has recently introduced a new lineup, is now struggling, as it failed to qualify for the DreamLeague Season 24 Closed Qualifiers. In an upset, OG lost to the Ukrainian team Palianytsia whose offlaner, who goes by the name ‘fortniteMan’ amused fans.

The clash took place in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals of the DreamLeague S24: Closed Qualifier Western Europe. The match was rather tense, and Palianytsia emerged as winners of the first set which lasted for 62 minutes. OG came back stronger in the second match, taking a quick and clean victory, which must have relieved the tension of their fans for a while. However, the final third game was a let down for OG as Palianytsia was able to dominate them due to a great performance from Shadow Fiend while taking advantage of the risky picks that OG had made.

Fan Reactions

After the loss, the fans took to the forums to express their disappointment in the team. For instance, a Reddit thread with the title “This team is such a joke” received more than 400 upvotes and 140 comments. Some of the fans complained about the state of the roster of OG, stating that the team could not sustain the level of dominance that they used to display.

“It’s amazing that each and every OG roster is worse than the one before it,” wrote one user.

“You would expect an organization that has won two TI championships to be able to lure in bigger talent, but nope.”

Another fan chimed in, “Whisper needs to go, he’s way too inconsistent. I can’t recall the last time he played well.”

Palianytsia’s Rise

While OG was receiving criticism, their opponents Palianytsia, especially offlaner fortniteMan, were the target of jokes and compliments. Palianytsia, which translates to a traditional Ukrainian bread, have moved to the Upper Bracket Semifinals where they will play against NAVI junior. The relatively unknown team is now the talk of the tournament with just two more series to go before DreamLeague S24.

Palianytsia has some familiar faces in their lineup: Vladyslav “Crystallize” Krystanek, who played for NAVI and PuckChamp, Bilous “Moonlight” Volodymyr, fortniteMan, Ivanov “QBFY” Vitali, and kreker – the support. However, looking at DotaBuff and other statistics, it becomes clear that these players have been playing in the competitive environment for some time. Once they qualify through the open stages, they are a real underdog story that is hard to stop.

OG’s Do or Die Moment

For OG, it is now the time to continue or to stop the journey. They are going to have an elimination match with Dandelions tomorrow. If they do not win, OG will not have qualified for any major tournaments since April 2024 and the future will be even more bleak. This is a do or die situation for the team.
