Faster than the Turtles, brighter that the Ray! G2 x iG will play The International 13.
On June 10, Team Zero caused a shocker in the esports community after they beat G2 x iG during the TI 2024 China qualifiers. Since the region had two slots available, G2 x iG were given another shot through the lower brackets. Their path, however, was full of strong teams—the up-and-coming favorites, Team Turtle, and the ever-looming threats, Azure Ray.
The last day of qualifiers was the most surprising one as G2 x iG defeated both rivals. All six games were closely contested and could have gone either way since the best-of-three series went to a third game.
G2 x iG vs Team Turtle: Somnus’ TI Attendance Streak Ends
Somnus has been a part of The International since 2015, and he rose to fame while playing for LGD that placed second and third to claim the Aegis of Champions. Even though his recent appearances at TI were not as impressive, he was still a regular attendee. This year would have been his ninth time attempting it, but G2 x iG stopped him during their TI 2024 China qualifiers.
Following the triumph in the first match, G2 x iG was quick to adjust their strategy by banning Dark Willow in the following games. Their strategic picks were firmly anchored in the new meta, such as Centaur for game two, the highest win-rate hero in the TI 2024 China qualifiers. In the third match, Team Turtle attempted to do this but were unable to handle the pressure from G2 x iG’s Dragon Knight, Templar Assassin, and Lycan push composition.
G2 x iG vs Azure Ray: The Lower Bracket Finals of the tournament.
The TI 2024 China qualifiers ended with G2 x iG defeating Azure Ray with a score of 2-1. First of all, G2 x iG failed to realize that Shadow Fiend should be banned, and Azure Ray used this to win the first game.
However, G2 x iG was quick to address this oversight. While they did not choose Centaur this time, they ended the series with Pangolier, a JT- special. The offlaner was the standout, not only in his lane but also finishing the game with a KDA of 12/2/19. This win secures G2 x iG’s place at The International in Copenhagen.
