G2 Esports Enters Dota 2 Arena with G2.iG in Collaboration with Invictus Gaming

In a landmark move for international esports collaborations, European powerhouse G2 Esports has joined forces with Chinese esports stalwart Invictus Gaming to launch a China-based Dota 2 team, named G2.iG.

This strategic alliance marks G2 Esports’ inaugural venture into the Dota 2 scene and expands its global esports footprint.

Set to debut at the ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 major starting December 11th, G2.iG represents a significant merging of esports cultures and strategies.

Invictus Gaming, a venerated name in the esports domain, brings to the table a rich history in Dota 2, including a triumphant run at The International in 2012. Invictus Gaming’s experience in managing teams across multiple titles like League of Legends, Counter-Strike, and PUBG further cements the strength of this partnership.

G2 Esports, traditionally a European organization, has been making concerted efforts to establish its presence globally.

This joint venture marks their ninth esports title and demonstrates their commitment to diversifying their portfolio. Notably, G2’s strategic expansion includes a recent partnership with the ownership group behind Version1, acquiring a North American Call of Duty League franchise slot and integrating Version1’s star Rocket League players.

G2’s foray into Asia isn’t unprecedented.

The organization previously established G2 Blacklist, a Filipino joint-partnership team for Wild Rift with Blacklist International. The new Dota 2 team, G2.iG, is another step towards strengthening G2’s presence in the Asian esports scene.

M88 Mansion, a prominent Asian betting platform, plays a crucial role in this partnership.

They will serve as the official betting partner for both G2.IG and G2’s Counter Strike teams, underlining the commercial viability and appeal of this East-West collaboration.

G2 Esports’ Chief Executive Officer, Alban Dechelotte, expressed his enthusiasm for this venture. “China has continuously been a priority market for us, and we’re excited to field a local team for our Chinese fans,” he stated. “Partnering with iG, a team with a Worlds trophy and an Aegis, enables us to build a top-tier team and bring the G2 way to another region and esport. This is an exhilarating time for G2 fans around the world.”

The formation of G2.iG is more than just an expansion; it’s a statement of intent from G2 Esports to make a lasting impact on the global esports stage.

As the Dota 2 ESL Pro Tour 2024 events schedule unfolds, the esports community will be keenly watching this new team, representing a blend of European strategy and Chinese prowess, make its mark in the highly competitive Dota 2 arena.
