Two staff members are reportedly suing former LFL team Mirage Elyandra for overdue payments, according to L’Equipe. The organization has also been accused of offering subpar training conditions for its roster during the 2022 season.
The employees have filed a lawsuit against B&L, the association that acted as an intermediary between them and Mirage in France. One staff member claims they received only 20% of their total salary, while the other alleges they have not been paid for half a year after experiencing payment delays.
Despite signing prominent figures like sOAZ as coach and Febiven as midlaner, Mirage Elyandra struggled to make an impact in the LFL. The team languished at the bottom of the rankings in 2022, which could be attributed to the purported financial issues.
Former players told L’Equipe about the inadequate training conditions at Mirage, mentioning their accommodation was far from the city in a facility with malfunctioning equipment.
A former player recounted frequent internet crashes, inedible meals, and electrical issues that affected the living situation.
Mirage encountered financial difficulties soon after joining the league in 2022, ultimately selling its league spot. However, the sale did not cover all outstanding debts, leaving some employees who worked without written contracts unpaid.
Highlight Event, which invested in Mirage, also faced issues when its owner, Alexander Studhalter, was sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury for a financial project connected to Vladimir Putin, leading to the team’s departure from the league.
Mirage Elyandra was formed as a collaboration between Quebec-based Mirage Esports and France’s Elyandra Esport for the 2022 LFL season. B&L CEO Marvin Lagrange now plans to sue the CEOs of Mirage and Elyandra, claiming he was promised a $600,000 budget but only received $100,000 during the season.
